Who contracts you. Setara Logistics contracts the partner capacity. It is the freight forwarder in the Setara Group. Your carrier agreement, your rate confirmations and your deposits all carry that name.

Setup

Verification and the carrier packet.

1

Your fleet

Company, authority numbers, equipment, lanes, and how to reach your dispatch.

2

Verification

Authority status, safety record, insurance certificate, and a reference check. Every carrier goes through the same vetting.

3

The packet

One agreement with Setara Logistics, your business number and a void cheque for direct deposit. US-based carriers send a US tax ID instead.

Terms

Claims, factoring and rate confirmations.

  • Rate confirmations. The rate you accept is the rate you invoice. A rate con is not reissued after booking.
  • Cargo claims. A claim is handled in writing, with your input. We do not offset it against loads you already ran without your written agreement.
  • Factoring. Send the notice of assignment with your packet and we pay your factor as instructed.

Carrier questions

What carriers ask before they sign.

What are your payment terms, exactly?
Net 15, and the clock starts the day you send us the signed POD. Your invoice can follow. Paid by direct deposit. Quick pay is available at one fee that is in your carrier packet before you sign, the same on every load.
Are detention, layover and TONU paid?
Yes. Free time, the detention rate, layover and TONU are on the rate confirmation before you accept. If it is on the rate con, we pay it whether or not our customer pays us. Detention runs from your scheduled appointment time, and your documented in and out times are the record.
Who contracts me, and whose name is on the rate con?
Setara Logistics, based in Vaughan, Ontario. That name is on your carrier agreement, on every rate confirmation and on the direct deposit.
Will you pass me a load a broker tendered to Setara Transport?
No. A load accepted by Setara Transport is not passed to another carrier without your written consent. We do not re-broker. If we cannot cover a load, we say so when it is tendered. The freight offered to you is Setara Logistics forwarding freight, contracted in that name.
Do you double-broker?
No. You haul for Setara Logistics, for a Setara Logistics customer. Setara Logistics does not re-broker loads to another party, and does not accept loads that a third party is re-brokering to it.
What do you need to set me up?
Your own operating authority for the lanes you run, including the US lanes. A current insurance certificate showing auto liability and cargo coverage. A signed carrier agreement, your business number (or US tax ID for US-based carriers), and a void cheque for direct deposit. The insurance minimums are in the packet.
Do you compete with me for freight?
No. Setara Transport runs the drayage off the two ramps and the Ontario and Quebec lanes. Setara Logistics contracts partner carriers for the lanes beyond.
Who handles the border paperwork?
Customs is arranged through a licensed customs broker partner, and the border paperwork is coordinated before your driver reaches the crossing. Setara never files an entry.
How do the two Setara companies fit together?
Setara Transport is the carrier and runs the trucks. Setara Logistics is the freight forwarder, and it is the company that contracts you, issues your rate confirmations and pays your invoices.
